You(r) Worst Enemy

Come see the Broadway Dance Center Student Showcase today, May 21st at 4:30pm and 8:00pm!

Throwback to “You(r) Worst Enemy” by Ashlé Dawson from last year’s showcase. I can still remember these dramatic moments at the end of her choreography, when it’s time you face your worst enemy. I’ve been told Ashlé’s piece is even more amazing this year. Don’t miss it!!!

Both Sides Now

Saw the talented Andy Rice in his first cabaret show tonight.

Fun times with his rendition of some of my favorite musical scores from “Little Shop of Horrors” and “Into the Woods”.

More of Parsons Dance

Returned tonight to see the amazing Parsons Dance at the Joyce Theater for a second time this week.

Finally a female dancer starring in “Caught”! Elena d’Amario is absolutely incredible. Love her lines and her extensions. Thank you for showing us not just how to fly… but how to fly so elegantly. If I may say so, it’s the best run of “Caught” that I’ve seen so far.

Absolutely love Ian Spring and Elena d’Amario in “Finding Center”. Beautiful emotional connection and powerful physical connection fused into a single duet. You two are gorgeous!

Feeling emotional after seeing Omar Roman De Jesus‘s “Daniel” again and knowing the story behind the creation. I wish I knew what the hand signals (sign language) mean during the tap portion of the choreo though.

Also, feeling so happy just watching all the dancers move in “Swing Shift”. I would go back anytime to see this piece again.

The Whitney

Self care week!

Because my average sleep is dropping below 4.5 hours per night. The High Line. The Whitney. Massage. Friends. Coffee. Desserts. Vegetables… And hopefully some rest soon.

Parsons Dance

The phenomenal Parsons Dance returns to the Joyce Theater!

Treated to an amazing program tonight with six unique choreographies.

Love love love the joyful and dynamic “Swing Shift”. Zoey Anderson and Elena d’Amario are so beautiful. But really, everyone in the eight-member cast is incredible. Love each and every of your jumps, kicks, turns, and all the energy you bring on stage. You all are amazing tonight, Geena Pacareu, Deidre Marie Rogan, Ian Spring, Justus Whitfield, Omar Roman De Jesus, Eoghan Dillon.

Ian Spring and Elena d’Amario are absolutely gorgeous and sensual in “Finding Center”. I can’t bear to take my eyes off them for even a fraction of a second. I wish time would freeze so I could continue watching them spin around each other, before the curtain closes.

Thank you Ian Spring, for showing us how to fly in “Caught”! Bravo!!!

Bravos also to “Daniel” created by company member Omar Roman De Jesus. I was already filled with emotions as I watched the dance. However, during the curtain chat, Omar spoke of his creation process, and described how he choreographed the piece to communicate with an autistic child. Wow. Suddenly, everything took on a new meaning. The dance meant so much more than what I had initially thought…

And, a fun curtain chat with the choreographers! I enjoyed learning about the fusion of Alvin Ailey, Paul Taylor, Martha Graham, Robert Battle, 80s South Bronx, gymnastics, and trampoline that led to tonight’s program. Keep experimenting and innovating! Look forward to seeing more of you, Parsons Dance!

SHE, a Choreoplay

Go see “SHE A Choreoplay”!!!!!

Powerful. Courageous. Unapologetic. Truthful. Empowering. Just some words the audience used to describe the performance in the post-show talk-back. Playing until May 21st. Details at Jinah Parker.

A show about sexual violence against women. A raw, emotional, and honest conversation for everyone. An incredible fusion of dance and spoken words to explore a sensitive topic, to connect with the audience, to dive into at-times secretive pasts, and to empower everyone to become an agent of change.

Did I mention the dancing is also absolutely gorgeous? Bravos to the dancers for candidly expressing a full range of emotions, from that of the dreamy first loves to the violent humiliating assaults, from that of the dark shameful moments to the healed souls. You are amazing: Jinah Parker, Sarah Elaz, Yuki Fukui, Brittni Genovese, Evelyn Hoelscher, Kerime Konur.

One of the most touching performances I’ve seen lately. Thank you for the wonderful work! #SHEaChoreoplay

Here/Now Festival

Spring time romance at New York City Ballet.

Went to today’s matinee to watch “Carousel” again. Such a beautiful and fun choreography by Christopher Wheeldon. The dance (and love story!) is still so mesmerizing and heart warming the second time around. The leaps at the end by Chase Finlay are absolutely amazing. Of course Lauren Lovette is lovely as usual.

(Next goal: See Lauren Lovette’s choreographies)

Finally saw “Year of the Rabbit” after hearing Justin Peck speak about it at the Inside NYCB seminar. Beautiful choreography. Delighted to see Teresa Reichlen, one of my favorite dancers, starring in the piece.

The black horse of the 5-choreography program goes to “The Inferno Machine” by Peter Martins. Bravos to Ashley Laracey and Craig Hall for the eccentric, sinister, at-times jarring, but powerful ballet. Wow!

Ailey School Graduation
